An important task of the Garden is the cultivation and investigation of endemic species of Slovenia. A number of them have been successfully grown in the Garden, some in the cultivation section: 

• Juvan's houseleek (Sempervivum juvanii)

• Hladnikia (Hladnikia pastinacifolia)

• Hladnik's scopolia (Scopolia carniolica f. hladnikiana)

They could be re-introduced into their endangered natural habitats.

The Garden shelters quite a number of endangered plants, among them some that have become extinct in nature. One of them is Fleischmann's parsnip (Pastinaca sativa var. fleischmanni), that occupies a very special position. It was found on the grounds of the Ljubljana Castle in the first half of the 19^th century; having disappeared from its natural habitats, now definitely growing in the cultivation section only.

Some from the group of endangered that grown in cultivation section:

• snake's-head fritillary (Fritillaria meleagris),

• hemlock (Conium maculatum),

• trumpet gentian (Gentiana kochiana),

 and vulnerable species:

• Carex limosa,

• bog arum (Calla palustris),

• Viola uliginosa.

We also breed plants from the borders of their distribution areas:

• Scopoli's rock-cress (Arabis scopoliana),

• Dinaric chickweed (Cerastium dinaricum),

• broad-leafed anemone (Anemone hortensis).

Numerous other plants have their classical finding sites in our territory, which means that the corresponding species were described on the basis of these plants. They surely deserve respect since they carried the name of Slovenia far beyond the borders of the country. For instance, the Province of Carniola was known for Blagay's daphne (Daphne blagayana).
